How The Fleet Genius Fleet Management System Works

ZVL1_FrontR-Prova_1smallThe system is plug-and-play and installation takes only a couple minutes per vehicle so you can start managing your fleet as soon as your Fleet Genius system arrives.

The system automatically updates your vehicle maintenance activities using the Fleet Genius fleet maintenance software.

1. MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CAR, PICKUP OR OTHER LIGHT DUTY TRUCK SUPPORTS OBD-2.

cariconblueOBD-2 Onboard Diagnostics is a standard for cars and light duty trucks.  This includes pick up trucks and other gasoline powered vehicles and also supports hybrid and diesel powered vehicles.

Your vehicle needs to have been manufactured after 1996.  If it is older than 1996 it won't support the VHM connection.
If you live outside of the USA or Canada it is possible that your vehicle's support for OBD2 started later than 1996.
For some international countries OBD-2 is not offered as a standard feature in all vehicles.

2. FIND THE OBD-2 DLC PORT ON YOUR CAR OR LIGHT DUTY VEHICLE

DLC_IMG_20141020_123954The OBD-2 port (also called the data link connector DLC) is located near the driver and is usually found on the dashboard near the drivers feet.

3. PLUG THE VHM INTO THE OBD2 DLC PORT

VHMConnector-433773-editedThe VHM plugs directly into the car's OBD-2 port.  You should have the vehicle running or have the instrumentation panel illuminated.

As soon as you plug-it in the VHM will look for your engine control unit and make a connection to your vehicle's computer automatically.  This takes a couple minutes per vehicle.   You can do it yourself.  So you won't need any expensive professional installers to hike up the price of your system.

4. TURN ON THE VEHICLE'S IGNITION AND START DRIVING

As soon as your VHM beeps it is ready to go.  Put your key in the ignition and start driving and the VHM will start recording your vehicle and driver's activities every second.  The VHM starts recording as soon as the ignition is turned on and stops recording when its shut off.

Let your company drivers go off to do their work.  We're monitoring this so you can relax.

5. UPLOAD YOUR TRIPS BY DRIVING BY THE FLEET GENIUS HOTSPOT AFTER YOU'VE FINISHED YOUR WORKDAY

AP_at_BFC_IndustrialAs soon as you are back within range of the Fleet Genius hotspot the VHM will talk to the AP basestation at your offices and it will upload all its trips to the basestation.   The basestation delivers the vehicles daily activity records to the Fleet Genius servers in the cloud.

If you have a Bluetooth VHM you can upload the vehicle's daily activities via the Android app on demand.

The Access Point basestations are as easy to install as a router (but more secure) and are best installed on the exterior of a building to give the maximum wireless coverage area.

6. THE ACCESS POINT BASESTATION UPLOADS YOUR TRIPS TO THE FLEET GENIUS SERVERS OVER THE INTERNET

cloud_greyYour trips get uploaded to the cloud servers after the basestation collects them.  Once uploaded Fleet Genius starts analyzing and reporting on your trips.

The system sends out notifcations for any maintenance that has become due and it reports if the vehicle has a diagnostic errors (DTCs).  We'll even alert you if the check engine light is illuminated.
